90 MINUTES IS ALL IT TAKES

US based National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) has certified ACE DuraFlo's ePIPE potable water lining epoxy, safe for "water on" in as little as 90 minutes. ePIPE can be applied to drinking water pipes having a diameter as small as 1/2".

Demands to protect metal pipes from leaching toxic metals like lead and copper have skyrocketed since the Flint lead
poisoning disaster emerged.

The patented ePIPE process protects metal pipes from leaching lead and copper in a matter of minutes, not days. Using the ePIPE process, lead levels are reduced to well below the World Health Organization's (WHO) cut-off guidelines for lead, at 10 ug/l (10ppb). The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) cut-off levels for lead, at 15 ug/l (15ppb), are 50 percent higher than recommended by the World Health Organization.

ePIPE’s protective lining can be returned to service in as little as 90 minutes, making it the fastest return to service and most effective in-place epoxy lining, lead and leak protection system in the industry.

"Hands down, we offer the best solution to protect drinking water from lead leaching”, said Larry Gillanders, CEO. "We are prepared to help cities like Flint to bring their water pipes into lead leaching compliance, using this efficient, effective and proven solution. Our non-invasive epoxy coating system can bring lead contaminated water systems, on both public and private side pipes, into compliance within hours, without causing destruction or closing down streets. This is a win-win for cities and their citizens.”

Every Earth Day, millions of Americans learn different strategies and products they can use to conserve resources and benefit the environment. With the Flint water crisis fresh on people's minds, we'd like to take this opportunity to inform you that you can be part of the solution to conserve water.

Quick Water Facts:
It is estimated that 10 percent of homes have pipe leaks, contributing to more than 1 trillion gallons of wasted water per year - this equates to approximately 1/6 of the U.S.'s clean water.

Older homes, buildings and cities may have lead pipes. Prior to 1988, lead solder was a commonly installed material used with copper piping systems in the U.S. and Canada.

The average American uses between 80 and 100 gallons of water a day.

Many American adults admit they never make an effort to conserve water.

The patented technology that we utilize for restoring piping systems, called the ePIPE epoxy coating process, which cures in as fast as 90 minutes, offers the fastest return to service barrier coating that prevents water pipe leaks, as well as bringing lead and copper leaching into compliance.

This in-place epoxy lining solution rehabilitates the pipes from the inside and prevents the clean water from touching the pipes, reducing the likelihood of leaks and metal contamination. This minimally-invasive method is preferred over traditional pipe replacement techniques, which are extremely expensive, disruptive, destructive, time-consuming and harmful to the environment.

Want to prevent wasteful, destructive slab leaks or pinhole leaks before they happen?

School's almost out. Summer is around the corner. It's about time to bring on the BBQ and pool parties!

But before your focus turns entirely to fun, do not forget that there is a certain amount of maintenance required to keep your property's pool functioning efficiently. Pipes, which are the hidden blood vessels of your pool, should be checked and cleaned routinely to safeguard the pipe system from leaks.

Approximately one in 20 pools has a leak!

If you live in a state that is currently in a drought, you could be fined for not recognizing a leak in your pool's pipe system. Approximately 30% of the land area in the United States is currently experiencing a drought, with the most severely affected areas being in the central and western part of the country. Each municipality has different rules regarding how often and how much you are allowed to fill up your pool, so be sure to know the rules in your specific municipality.

A pinhole leak can lose around 970 gallons of water from your pool in just one day. If not discovered in time, this will lead to 30,000 gallons of water wasted a month or 360,000 gallons of water wasted per year!

ACE DuraFlo's revolutionary epoxy coating provides leak protection for your pool's and property's water pipes. If your pool is appearing to lose an abnormally high amount of water or if your pool is older than 10 years old, please give us a call for a free estimate. Thousands of people across the world have chosen ePIPE to restore their pipe systems. Our patented leak protection technology applies epoxy coating to pipes using a unique and non-invasive process, which prevents the need for digging and destroying your landscaping, pool area and home. This epoxy coating dries to form a strong and protective barrier inside the pipes that is safe for all types of water pipe systems.

Only our patented ePIPE technology has the quickest return-to-service time in the industry, with a two hour pipe system downtime. You could wait days, but why would you?

California High-Speed Rail - Union Station is planned to be a major hub for the future California High-Speed Rail System. Upon completion, it's projected that passengers will be able to get from Union Station to San Francisco in around 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Popular Filming Location
Movies that have featured Union Station as a filming location include: Blade Runner, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, Drag Me to Hell, Gable and Lombard, Pearl Harbor, In the Mood, Silver Streak, The Way We Were and Under the Rainbow.

ePIPE Chosen to Protect Union Station's Piping System and Architecture
Given the backdrop of its historical nature and the significance in popular culture, preservation of the fabric of the building remains a prime consideration when issues such as piping repairs are considered.

ePIPE installers were called on to use the patented ePIPE system to seal leaks and to protect supply and return pipes that service the famous water fountain at Union Station. Leaky pipes embedded into the structure ruled out a traditional tear out, repair and replace. Pipes were restored "in-place" using the patented ePIPE system.

ePIPE, a hydrophobic epoxy based protective barrier coating, was recently approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) to their Standard NSF 61.5 Immediate Return to Service testing for Commercial Hot water exposure, with a 2 hour cure for use in applications in potable water pipes ½" and larger, applied thickness up to 120 mils. NSF, commercial hot water criteria covers both cold and hot water exposure up to 180°F/82°C.

In addition to the NSF approval, the 2 hour return to service ePIPE product is also approved in the UK, Belgium, Spain and South Africa. In the UK the ePIPE product is approved under both the WRAS and reg 31 for use in both private and public water systems. Product roll out in other jurisdictions is ongoing.

In all these jurisdictions, ePIPE is the only 2 hour cure epoxy based protective barrier coating approved for application in drinking water pipes, ½" and larger.

Our prime objective in the development of this product was to deliver a product and a system of application meeting both water regulators and customer demands for minimal interruption to water service while meeting all the required health criteria when working with potable water systems.

ePIPE projects can now be staged to minimize water shut downs and depending on the project scope, many ePIPE projects can now be completed in a matter of hours, rather than days.

Problem:
Water service pipe running under the 2 carriageway road is leaking, estimated water loss 12,500 liters per day (4.5 million liters/yr. or some 1 million Imp. gallons/yr.) per single communication pipe. Water loss through system wide leakage in the UK is estimated to be about 25-30% of the overall water being supplied. Making an effort to tackle leakage issue is foremost on the minds of water company officials and OFWAT. (Regulators)

Challenge:
Stop the leak with minimal excavation, keep the traffic flowing and keep customer service interruption under 4 hours.

Solution:
ePIPE® WRAS approved in-place lining and leak sealing technology.

Pipe Restoration Services (PRS), the UK ePIPE provider was called in to tackle the problem. The ePIPE technicians isolated the leaking communication pipe at the ferrule on the main water supply line and at the curb stop. The isolated communication pipe when exposed was found to be comprised of copper ends tied into a section of lead pipe that ran under the road. The isolated pipe was drained and prepared for the ePIPE lining process. The lining process from water off to water restored took less than 4 hours. Pressure and flow checks showed the leak was sealed and proper water flow was restored. An added benefit, in this case, with lead pipe is the improvement of water quality with ePIPE being approved for its effectiveness on reducing lead leaching into the water supply.

Outcomes

  • Traffic disruption minimised - no special requirements
  • Reduced excavation
  • Leakage resolved for full length of pipe
  • Added benefit of lining of lead pipe enhancing water quality

Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), announced today that they have been awarded US Patent # 8895905 by the US Patent Office.

This patent is focused on the development of a novel portable heating apparatus and methods used as part of the patented ePIPE process of in-place restoration of small diameter piping systems.

The development of a portable heat source that can be used inside buildings and in close proximity to pipes being lined, in-place, has been a challenge to the industry. Traditional heating methods relied on the use of expensive heat generators that could not be placed inside buildings and/or in close proximity to the area of work. This often resulted in costly energy inefficiencies.

“Our research and development team are proud of our ongoing innovation program and this accomplishment, this being our 13th US Patent in our pipe lining program. Added to our 2 hour cure resin, approved for use with potable water systems, this latest improvement compliments the overall ePIPE opportunity. "Projects involving ePIPE lining for in-place leak protection or prevention of lead leaching can be accomplished in a matter of hours rather than days,”said Larry Gillanders, CEO.

The Problem:
Testing of the fire suppression systems at four of the DC Metro Stations showed the system had active leaks, not holding pressure at the required 200 psi.

Additional logistical problems: 1) a no disturbance rule to national monuments at the Arlington Cemetery Station and at the Smithsonian Metro Station, 2) avoidance of shut down of the Metro lines and 3) internal locational challenges of the piping system, running near the Metro tracks, running overhead and underground made locating and fixing the leaks in a conventional manner very difficult. The fire suppression pipes were up to 6" ID and had runs of up to about 115 ft.

The Solution:
ePIPE patented leak sealing and approved protection for fire sprinkler systems. Metro line customers were not inconvenienced during the process, the ePIPE process was completed over several Friday and Saturday nights. Final pressure testing of the ePIPE protected system demonstrated the effectiveness of the ePIPE process. All passed, keeping the DC Metro fire suppression system up and operating protecting the Metro and its passengers.

Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT), makers of the ePIPE ® product line, announced today that it has been granted its 11th US patent, #8795768 for methods and systems for coating and sealing inside piping systems using a barrier coating leak sealant.

"Preventing leaks and saving water is becoming more critical every day. Many parts of the US are facing serious drought conditions. Some estimates suggest that water leakage from "pinhole leaks" in small diameter supply pipes, can account for more than 20% of the total water loss experienced by a water utility. A troublesome and common problem of repairing leaks located under a buildings foundation or slab, a slab leak can in most cases be easily prevented or repaired without cutting up the building or digging using our ePIPE process", said Larry Gillanders, CEO, PRT.

This latest patent adds to PRT's expanding patent portfolio in which it has patent coverage in the US, Canada and Europe.

Gillanders added: "Our 2 hour return to service "in-place" lining material approved by NSF in the US, Belgaqua in Belgium, OTEC in Spain, SABS in South Africa and by the UK's Secretary of State (Drinking Water Inspectorate) for use in England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland is an added benefit for both applicators and users as pipes can be restored in-place with minimal down time."

The Problem:
A 114 unit Homeowners Association located in Laguna Niguel, Southern California was spending thousands of dollars each month repairing leaks in the potable water piping and the water damage it was causing in resident’s homes. A method of Chloramine water treatment by local water utilities was thought to be adding to the problem of leaky pipes.

The Solution:
ePIPE restoration with multiple crew capacity using the patented ePIPE same day return to service lining materials and methods. ePIPE fast return to service lining is the quickest return to service lining material approved by NSF and the Uniform Plumbing Code for use in domestic water supply pipes as small as ½” in diameter, pipes that are typically found in most homes.

ePIPE was the preferred solution for a number of reasons. The homeowners were fed up with multiple leaks and the associated damages, traditional repairs and the invasiveness of a re-pipe. ePIPE is far less destructive than traditional repairs and provides peace of mind with prevention of future leaks. Two trucks and crews were assigned to the project, which was completed ahead of schedule in 13 weeks. Water was back on for all homeowners every night.

Board Member from the HOA states, "Our members were never inconvenienced or without water for more than about 8-10 hours. The crews were polite and clean. Many homeowners left them alone to work for the day because they were so trustworthy and reliable. This is the most non-invasive cure for pinhole plumbing leaks."

The Peninsula Beverly Hills, a luxury hotel located at the center of Beverly Hills, near Rodeo Drive, provides world class accommodations and service to celebrities and other high profile guests. The hotel features an award winning rooftop pool and jacuzzi with cityscape views.

The Problem:
The Peninsula’s pool and jacuzzi were experiencing leaks in the piping system.

The pipes ran through multiple floors from the mezzanine to the roof. The leaks were causing water damage to the rooms in the hotel, causing lost occupancy due to attempts to repair the leaks.

The Solution:
ePIPE “in-place” pipe restoration with minimal disruption to the hotel and its guests.

The patented ePIPE process was used to restore the piping system and prevent future corrosion and leaks. The ePIPE team lined hundreds of feet of 2½” - 3” pipes feeding the pool and jacuzzi in just a few days time.

Traditional repair methods would have been noisy, messy and require closing an entire floor of the hotel during the course of the repairs. Using ePIPE restoration, only two rooms were closed during the repairs and the hotel was back to 100% occupancy in a matter of days.

Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC, makers of the ePIPE® product line, announced today that it's ePIPE FRS fast 2 hour cure lining material has been tested by the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and complies fully to the South African Standards for Drinking Water (SANS)

The ePIPE lining material was tested by SABS at it’s Pretoria testing facility, reports Larry Gillanders.

The ePIPE fast return to service lining process and material are developed to provide a protective lining often called a barrier coating to the inside of small diameter pipes that carry drinking water.

“This national approval in South Africa helps solidify the global reputation of our company and our ePIPE brand; our team has once again proven its ability to invent responsive technologies aimed at the pipe rehabilitation industry. Water loss through leaks in supply pipes and the delivery of wholesome water in light of the new World Health Organization (WHO) regulations covering lead leaching were important drivers in developing and expanding this technology,” said Larry Gillanders, CEO, Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT).

Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC, (PRT) today announced that it has been awarded US patent #8,524,320 for its innovative ePIPE® in-place lining technology, which reduces lead, from lead pipes and other in-line lead contributors from leaching into the drinking water supply. Using the ePIPE process, lead levels are reduced to below the World Health Organization’s (WHO) guidelines for lead of 10 ug/l (10ppb).

The patent, "Process for Coating the Interior Surface of Water Service Lines” was granted by the USPTO, which covers the in-place coating of lead pipes, curing the resin, in at least 1 hour and when cured reduces lead in the water supply to less than 10 ug/l (10 ppb). The process is completed to pipes “in-place” reducing the need for excessive digging or tearing up a buildings foundation or walls, as is common using conventional pipe replacement methods.

ePIPE protected pipes and fittings allow water suppliers to discontinue the use of lead inhibitors.

It is estimated that 25% of domestic dwellings in the EU have a lead pipe, either as a connection to the water main, or as part of the internal plumbing, or both, potentially putting 120 million people at risk from lead in drinking water within the EU.

An estimated 38 million properties in the US are affected by lead leaching into the water supply.

Lead is a cumulative poison, and exposure can affect nearly every system in the body. Children under 6 and pregnant women are the most susceptible to the negative health effects of lead exposure.

“With the application of our patented ePIPE technology we are contributing to a healthier delivery of drinking water especially to those most at risk to exposure to lead, children under 6 and expecting mothers”, says CEO, Larry Gillanders.

With the ePIPE product and process, water supply pipes can be restored “in-place” in a matter of a few hours per property.

“We have already completed lead reduction programs with several proactive Water Utilities and Housing Councils in the UK, and with the US Department of Defense in the United States. In all cases, after the ePIPE process, a first draw of standing water, tested at the kitchen tap for lead, was found to be in compliance with new WHO/EU guidelines”, added Larry.

Corresponding patent applications have also been filed in other countries including the European Union.

The Problem:
A 93 unit apartment complex was experiencing pinhole leaks in its potable water piping system.

Property Owners face complex decisions involving expensive choices when leaks and corrosion exist in the piping systems. This is especially important when it comes to income properties and the care of their tenants. Having water off overnight or longer could require putting up the tenants in a hotel, other temporary facilities or plumbing in temporary water systems in order take care of the tenants during a prolonged water off period.

The Solution:
ePIPE Restoration with their same day return to service program.

With the ePIPE advanced 2 hour return to service product, no other lining company comes close to being able to offer a same day “water on” service.

The owner, who had expressed interest in the ePIPE solution, was informed that ePIPE restoration could be performed at his property with no overnight water shut downs and with no installation of costly temporary water bypass systems.

ePIPE certified technicians were able to restore the piping system, protect the pipes from future corrosion and leaks, and have water back on for the tenants every night during the restoration. Tenants came home every night with water available at every tap. The owner did not have to pay to relocate or compensate the tenants for the inconvenience of long water shut downs.

In December 2013 the EU will adopt the new World Health Organization (WHO) quality standard for lead in drinking water of 10 μg/l (10 ppb). An initial estimate is that 25% of domestic dwellings in the EU have a lead pipe in the water supply system, potentially putting up to approximately 120 million people or more at risk from lead in drinking water within the EU.

With lead pipes present in the water supply system, water suppliers are finding it difficult to meet the new standards using current corrective remedies. Current corrective remedies include the use of chemical additions to the water supply such as dosing with phosphate-based materials, conventional dig and replace methods, pull through, moling or slip lining methods.

ePIPE process and products prepare and place a protective barrier coating inside of lead drinking water pipes without having to dismantle or dig up the pipes. Patented ePIPE protected pipes reduced lead from leaching from the pipes to non detectable levels when measured at regulators cut off criteria. When made ready for service in the 2 hour time frame, specific leachates, such as Bisphenol A and Epichlorohydrin also measured non detectable when measured at regulators cut off levels.

Development and Testing
Providing a solution to reduce lead in drinking water service lines, US based Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC (PRT) and UK based Morrison Utility Services teamed up in a UK based Joint Venture, Pipe Restoration Services (PRS). With over 12 years experience, ePIPE is a proven technology, and is used extensively for small diameter water pipe lining in the US, the EU and other parts of the world.

The product development program aimed at lead lining remediation rolled out in 2010 and utilized ePIPE specialists from the US and Canada working alongside experts from Morrison’s water utility service group. In-ground installation set ups and testing were used in the UK trials which involved treating existing lead service lines ranging in diameter from 12mm to 50mm.

UK’s Secretary of State has approved the use of ePIPE, for in-situ application to public water supply systems. Water carrying pipes, including lead pipes, having an internal bore, as small as 12mm, can be restored, in-place, with a ready to return to service in 2 hour time frame.

UK’s Secretary of State has approved the use of ePIPE, a high performing epoxy resin lining developed by Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLC, for in-situ application to public water supplies. Water pipes having an internal bore, as small as 12mm (1/2”), can be restored, in-place, with a 2 hour ready to return to service time using the patented ePIPE system.

The ePIPE lining and system of application provides an effective answer to water pipe communication or supply line replacement for either lead or leakage programmes. Lining the entire service supply lines from the water main to the customers tap, the ePIPE process provides a more comprehensive and robust solution to tackling the dissolved lead issue within the drinking water supply. In 2013, the acceptable dissolved lead levels in the UK and the EU will be reduced from 25 ug/l (25 ppb) to 10 ug/l (10 ppb). Acceptable dissolved lead levels in drinking water in Canada follow the 10 ug/l (10 ppb ) level. The acceptable level in the US is set at 15 ug/l (15 ppb).

ePIPE is the first lining material and process of its kind to meet the stringent requirements of both UK’s Water Regulatory Advisory Scheme (WRAS) and the UK’s Drinking Water Regulation 31 program. In addition to the Reg. 31 testing regime, additional product testing was completed, specific to lead leaching effectiveness of the ePIPE material and process, proving the effectiveness of ePIPE on lead pipe and fittings containing lead.

Specific properties and neighbourhoods may be targeted for remedial action with use of the ePIPE technology. Fast turnaround times and limited need to dig make ePIPE an effective alternative to dig and replacement programs.

It is estimated that some 8 to 10 million properties in the UK may have lead pipes, and that overall 25% of properties in the EU may have lead pipes, affecting an estimated 120 million people in the EU. It is estimated that some 38 million properties in the US are affected by lead in piping systems.

THE USNS WATSON IS 950 FEET LONG WITH A CARGO CAPACITY OF 393,000 SQUARE FEET.

The Problem:

Corroded pipes, difficult access.

Drain and air vent piping systems, ranging from 3/4” to 1” inch in diameter, and approximately 80 feet in length were experiencing encrustation and signs of corrosion.

The traditional fix for this corrosion control problem would be to take apart the entire rear of the ship, including all of the operating components for the engine and replace the pipes. Such a job normally would take over 3-6 months, and cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Knowing that ACE DuraFlo had successfully restored the corroded pipes of Naval vessels USNS Dahl and USNS Watkins, with its patented ePIPE restoration process, ACE DuraFlo was contacted to see if the ePIPE process was a viable option for the USNS Watson.

The Solution:

ePIPE saved US Taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars in a single job.
